Our Beltane Fire filled with incense & herbs! )o(

When I was a vegan witch during a time when dairy is such a blessed food, such as Beltane, it was kind of difficult to find vegan recipes to share at the Fire Ritual. Here are some recipes I had come up with for a blessed vegan, dairy-free, Beltane.

Apple Zucchini Muffins

  • 2 single-serve apple sauce cartons
  • 1 cup of light brown sugar
  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • 1 cup olive or vegetable oil.
  • 1T of Vanilla
  • 1T of cinnamon sugar
  • 1t of baking soda
  • 1t of baking powder
  • a pinch of salt
  • 3 cups of flour
  • 2 medium Zucchinis, grated.
  • You can add walnuts if you want, but I didn’t ’cause I’m allergic.
1) Grate your zucchinis if not already having done so.
2) You want to preheat your oven to 350ºF and grease your pans with pam or I used spray coconut oil, if you don’t have these you could even use just olive oil or vegan butter rubbed onto it. It really doesn’t matter.
3) In a large bowl, mix your apple saucesugarbrown sugar, oil vanilla together well.
4) After well mixed, add in your cinnamon sugarbaking sodabaking powder, & salt. Mix it all together again.
5) Begin to add in the Zucchini and flour slowly, stirring after adding a little bit each time. This will help everything combine together well and make it easier to mix.
6) Scoop the mix into muffin tins, filling the tins until a little over half full. These muffins will rise, but not by a ton!
7) Cook until you stick a toothpick in and it comes out clean. This can be anywhere from 15-40 minutes depending on your oven. I have a little convection oven because I’m a college student so it took me about 20 minutes per batch of muffins.
This recipe yields about 21-24 muffins.

Lavender Raspberry Lemonade
This lemonade tastes amazing. It’s my favorite drink and I low-key hate the smell of lavender. So, even if you don’t like the smell of lavender it still tastes really good and helps with a lot of things due to the magickal properties of the lavender itself (digestive problems, depression, and so much more)! This recipe would be great for Litha as well because it is so spring and summer friendly!
  • a 2 Quart pitcher.
  • Two quarts worth of lemonade mix. I used Country Time Lemonade mix, but any will do! If you want to go really fancy you could squeeze your own lemons and add some cane sugar….but ain’t nobody got time for that! (Except, maybe you?)
  • A pint of fresh Raspberries.
  • 1T of Lavender Essential Oil- MAKE SURE YOU GET FOOD SAFE ESSENTIAL OIL. (If you can’t find any, Torani syrup makes a lavender flavor. It’s not as strong, but it’s alright.)
1) Rinse your raspberries and put them in the bottom of your pitcher.
2) Make the lemonade mix according to the directions on package, in the pitcher.
3) Add the lavender oil and mix it all together.
4) Feel free to add fresh lemons into the mix as well to help it taste even better! Serve over ice or chilled!
Beltane Wine
For the 18+/21+ people at your Beltane celebration, this wine is perfect for summer dreams and spring wishes.
  • A 2 Quart Pitcher
  • 2 bottles of white or blush wine. They don’t have to be fancy! We used $5 bottles from Walmart. One Chateau Diana White Zinfandel & One Chateau Diana Pinot Grigio.
  • 2 strawberry or black-cherry Segram’s Escapes.
  • A big package of Frozen Strawberries.
1) Pour the package of frozen strawberries into the pitcher, then add the two bottles of wine.
2) Add the Segram’s Escapes and stir!
3) Pour into a medieval chalice-I mean wine glass, and Enjoy!

Farls!
Along with being hilariously fun to say, Farls are a big part of a Beltane celebration. I created my own vegan & budget friendly recipe this year. These are a lot like latkes or potato pancakes so if you know how to make those, these are a cinch!

  • 2 cups of regular oatmeal or oats.
  • 3 heaping cups of mashed potatoes.
  • 2T of Earth Balance vegan butter.
  • 1t of Corn Starch
  • 1t of baking powder
  • A pinch of salt.
  • 1T of black pepper.
  • 1T of dried basil
  • Oil for frying.
1) First you want to soak the oatmeal in warm water for a few minutes. Mine only needed about 5 minutes, but they can take anywhere from 5-20 minutes. When they’re soft and swelling up they’re finished soaking. Strain them and put them in a big bowl.
2) Add your mashed potatoes into the bowl, it helps if they’re warm when you do this, and add in your butterbasilbaking powdercorn starch, and black pepper in as well. Mix this together until it’s all well combined and happy.
3) Form the mixture into little flat shaped patties, and fry in the oil until a nice golden brown color.
4) Serve warm with ketchup or whatever other dipping sauce you like!
Fire Friendly Vegan Food Ideas:
Beltane centers around the fire ritual and a huge bonfire. So here are some great ideas for what vegans could roast over the fire:
  • Smart Dogs or Yves (Vegan Hot Dogs)
  • Tofurky kielbasa, beer brats, tomato basil sausage, whatever you can find!
  • Dandies Vegan Marshmallows
  • Portabella Mushrooms (You can marinate them the night before for an even tastier treat!)
  • Vegan Smorez: Two graham crackers, a vegan marshmallow and vegan chocolate (Rite Aid has a cheap Dark Chocolate Bar in their $1 section that’s vegan) OR Trader Joe’s Speculoos Cookie & Cocoa swirl! ❤ Pure Bliss.

Friend of the Fae Cookies: Beltane & Litha Ritual Food

This magickal spin on a traditional sugar cookie is great for making before Beltane festivals and Litha rituals as it can easily be eaten by yourself, shared with your friends or coven, and used as an offering to the fae!

  • 5 1/2 Cups of All-Purpose Flour (You’ll also need some extra flour for rolling purposes)
  • 2 Cups Faerie Sugar (Regular Sugar mixed with 2TB Vanilla and a few drops of food coloring–usually pink or red)
  • 1tsp Cream of Tartar
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 2 Cups Room Temp Butter
  • 2tsp Baking Powder
  • A Pinch of salt!
  • Sprinkles for decoration!
  • Optional: Finely chopped dried Lavender & 2Tbs of Lemon Extract added into your mix for Lavender Lemon cookies!

If you are looking to make this recipe vegan, just simply swap the eggs for applesauce and the butter for a vegan butter (like earth balance).

  1. Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC).
  2. Mix your dry ingredients.
  3. In a separate larger bowl, mix faerie sugar, butter, and eggs. Add eggs one at a time creating a fluffy airy mixture, continuing to mix.
  4. Slowly, begin to add the dry ingredients into your mixture. When everything is evenly combined into a nice dough you’re ready to begin cutting your shapes!
  5. To cut shapes, roll your dough out onto a floured surface. (You may need to separate the dough into sections if there is too much to fit on your surface. You want dough to be about a 1/4 of an inch or so thick.) Once rolled, cut the cookies with your friend of the fae cookie cutter. Place cookies on a baking sheet and press some sprinkles in them for good measure!
  6. Bake cookies for 10-15 minutes. When they’re golden brown on the edges they’re ready to be taken out! Allow to rest a few minutes before moving them to a cooling rack. Be sure to cut a few cookies up into smaller, faerie sized pieces and place as an offering for the fae folk along with a thimble of warm milk! 🙂

My Spirit Animal is a Nope Rope.

Call to your spirit guides, they said. It will be fun, they said.

Well, what they didn’t say was WHAT your spirit guides could be. Sure, I was warned that your spirit guides can sometimes be well….snarky. I was also told that they can sometimes be too blunt. So of course, when I asked for them to show themselves to me three times I asked that they do so gently as I was not sure if I would be able to handle such a blunt reveal. I figured it’ll be my grandmother or a long-lost dead relative. I’ve only ever heard of spirit guides from my friends of being either relatives or humans. The occasional “spirit animal” here and there, but never any definite proof. I only worried about who it could be. I didn’t really worry about what animal it could be…..and I DEFINITELY didn’t worry about what type of phobias I had.

Well, buckle in witches, because when you call to your spirit guides they like to be absolute dingles and show themselves to you in whatever way they feel. Let’s say you’re deathly afraid of snakes and just walking into your kitchen after an emotional night. It’s 5 o’clock in the morning, you haven’t slept in 48 hours, and there….on your kitchen floor is a full-sized adult garter snake. You stumble past it, not noticing it at first. Putting your items away from going to Walmart stashing things into your cabinets. You start to head back and notice a rope on the floor. Suddenly an instinct within you that you didn’t even know existed kicks in and you stop, staring at the “rope”. Your SO is not far from you and you look at them and go;

“Is that a snake?” you ask, feeling silly. The coil on the floor looking more and more like one and less and less like a necklace chain. You watch your SO move over.

“How did that get in?” they ask. Your anxiety kicks in. Suddenly you’re crying and shaking. There’s now a bucket over the snake and you’re grabbing for your keys. You’re out the door in thirty seconds with only one solution. You’re going to live in your car for the rest of your life because there are snakes in your house. Obvious solution.

Okay, maybe that’s not the obvious solution for everyone. So, after several hours and three different people trying to convince my crying blubbering mess to go back into the house, I surrendered and went back. My SO caught it in a bucket and shooed it out. Everything was over. My snake phobia wasn’t even that bad…or at least that’s what I thought. However, I was never thrown into a situation of coming face to face with one. Normally, Gartersnakes are rather…well cute. They’re derpy, legless puppies. Not like a cobra, which have those crazy eyes. Garter snakes are like Gnome, derpy and slow.

My office just started getting renovated. My team & I are in the process of completely restarting and starting things over. The energy is stale and it’s time to start over new. We headed to home depot, picked up some paint and of course, a natural organic snake keep away spray. It’s basically just a mixture of Clove Oil and a bunch of other EOs that are proven to keep snakes away. We sprayed it around the house, and for some reason, I ran a thin line of it over the radiator I was painting.

The office walls are being painted a gorgeous energetic and creative, yet incredibly spiritual orange. It matches the Ganesha tapestry and the green plants. It’s perfect. It’s uplifting. I added some Ganesha oil into the paint so it invites prosperity and opportunities are out. The business really needs that. As I’m painting the wall near the radiator, we get chatting. My sister accidentally lets slip that snake came into the house again while I was asleep earlier. Thankfully, this time I take it more light heartedly. I express that I’m upset about them not telling me, and that I’m annoyed that it keeps coming back.

As if on cue, the little brown danger noodle begins to slither up OUT OF THE RADIATOR I WAS JUST PAINTING. I drop the paintbrush and run over behind my mom. More surprised than anxiety-filled like the previous time.

“WHY DOES THIS THING LIKE MY HOUSE SO MUCH——” I begin, then I pause, “OH SHIT.”

It hit me, I had JUST attended my friend’s spirit guide seminar. I had JUST asked my spirit guides to make themselves known to me….three times. Over the chaos of the last few weeks, they hadn’t had the chance yet. However, the snake had just finished making itself known to me for the second time when it showed up the third.

A snake is my spirit guide. I mean, I guess it makes sense. I’ve been terrified yet fascinated by them ever since I was little. A snake is the symbol of rebirth. It’s a symbol of transformation and life-changing. Healing. I could use some healing. My life and my SO’s has just been chaos over the past few weeks. We’ve experienced so much change. A reminder to be grounded is needed. It’s so needed.

All in all, I’m thankful for being shown my spirit animal. I’m thankful for being told by a fellow witch that it is now my Power Animal. I can call upon the snake to show me how to change for the better by shedding my skin. I just wish this danger noodle was more subtle. Fucking danger noodles, man.

Easy Accidental Magick

Alright, guys, it’s the blog you have all been waiting for. The sneaky ways I get myself to practice witchcraft daily in my crazy schedule. So, if you’re always short on time like I am, here are my favourite ways to get my witch on.

Shower Magick.

Although I consider myself a bath witch….I rarely get a chance to take a bath myself. Mainly, I just help make products for other people. So, I have started to practice shower magick anytime I take a shower. Which, is often because I’m a mean CLEAN machine. Herbal shampoos and conditioners can be a life saver for a witch short on time. My favourite to use for magick is Nature’s Gate Herbal Shampoo and Conditioner. It smells like a Wiccan shop and is chock full of herbs for all kinds of magickal goodness throughout the day…and the smell lingers for sooo long. Every time I flip my hair it’s like a magickal burst. Filled with herbs like Sage, Lavender, Thyme & Rosemary…it’s a protection and purification dream! You can purchase the shampoo on Amazon here…but I warn you. It’s more pricey than your normal shampoo. Which is why I had to stop buying it. But–it’s still my favorite shampoo.

The shampoo I currently switched to I picked up the Grocery Store for $1.99. It’s not the best quality shampoo for my type of hair (I have dry, frizzy hair when it’s not freshly washed) but it’s certainly good for magick. I picked up Sauve Professional’s Rosemary & Mint shampoo. Rosemary & Mint are great for protection and purification magick so it’ll do the same thing as the Nature’s Gate…you just won’t have as many magickal hair flip bursts. 😉 You can purchase this shampoo on amazon here, but note it is quite overpriced. It’s available at most grocery stores, I’ve found.

So, when I put shampoo in my hair I always say a little spell. When I put the shampoo/conditioner in my hand, I draw it in a triple goddess )o(, because I’m a product whore and use way too much constantly….with no shame. While doing this, I ask the Goddess for protection until my next shower; I say something along the lines of this. Usually, I just babble…the Goddess knows that I can never stick to a script. hahaha.

Goddess please protect me with your light,
Cleanse me now with all your might.
Keep me safe within’ your arms.
Until my next shower shield me from harm.
So mote it be.

Then I slather that baby into my hair and wash it out, visualizing all negativity from my body and soul washing down the drain along with it. It’s as easy as that!

Herb Food Magick

One thing a lot of witches forget is that when you’re cooking all the herbs you use are good for different things. Basil is amazing for protection, mental clarity, and coming into money, Rosemary is kick-ass at protection, Thyme is great for courage, Black Pepper can protect from evil, Salt is always great for purification, Cinnamon loves to help by drawing in business and prosperity, Red Pepper Flakes are a great offensive tactic when you have visitors over for jinxing an enemy,  Oregano can help to bring happiness, joy, & protection. And those are just the ones I know off the top of my head. There are HUNDREDS of other uses for these herbs, and tons of different uses for the others you have in your kitchen.
Pro-tip; If you find that you have some extra time on your hands, pick up some $1 file label stickers at the dollar store and do some research for the herbs in your kitchen. Write down what they can be used for and stick the stickers right onto your herbs. A quick cheat-sheet for when you’re making your meals!

Also, it’s always great to give a little of what you make as an offering for your guiding deity. So, keep a small plate to the side and share!

Another great way to sneak some magick into your kitchen is with a KITCHEN WITCH! In Germany, Norway, and some parts of the UK, it’s believed that keeping a witch doll in your kitchen will bring you good luck and ward off evil spirits. Not to mention, they’re so darn cute!

Coffee Magick

What kind of a college witch would I be if I didn’t know a little coffee magick?
Coffee in itself is magickal. Bet you didn’t know that, did ya? That big ole cup of Joe keeping you up just long enough to finish studying for your finals is great for keeping peace of mind-no…really…I’m not just saying that to make us feel better about our addiction, that’s really one of its magickal properties. Coffee is also believed to have the power to get rid of negative thoughts/blockages you may have built up spiritually inside you and help to ground you. Gnarly!
Additives to your coffee can help you with different things as well. Here’s a little mini chart:

Café Mocha: Romance, Grounding.
Caramel Macchiato: Prosperity, Protection, Grounding.
Pumpkin Spice Latte: Prosperity & Attracting Money!
Peppermint Mocha: Ridding of negative energy, grounding, and helping with love!
Hazelnut Macchiato: Protection & Grounding, Warding off evil spirits.
Vanilla Iced Coffee: Love & Protection. Energy Renewal.
Coffee with Milk & Sugar: Protection & Prosperity in love.
Coffee with Milk: Prosperity, Protection, Grounding.
Coffee with Soy Milk & Sugar: Success in love.
Coffee with Soy Milk: Bringing Forth Success.
Coffee with Coconut Milk & Sugar: Remaining faithful in love.
Coffee with Coconut Milk: Protection.
Coffee with Almond Milk: Wisdom and healing.
Coffee with Almond Milk & Sugar: Wisdom in love.

While sipping, visualize what you want your coffee to do for you based on the list above! These are all my own spin on what the herbs and coffee would do for each other in an ideal situation. If you have different theories…let me know!

(The sigil pictured is for a successful business).

Jewelry Magick

The easiest way to sneak some magick into your life is using jewelry. As most witches know, crystals have different meanings and metaphysical beliefs for what they do for you….but what if I told you-you don’t always need a crystal for everything. If you have a special piece of jewelry that you hold dear to you, all you have to do to enchant it is charge it with your intentions. Want it to be a money drawing necklace? Run it through cinnamon incense smoke. Want it to be a protection bracelet? Run it through protection incense smoke. And so on, & so forth. If you envision and believe the piece of jewelry will help you….it will. It always will.
Alright, well, that’s enough for today. If you all want to know more easy accidental magick tricks, just let me know and I’ll think about making another blog!

Moon Magick

Moon Phase Magick Correspondence

The moon is a powerful tool for doing spell work. It’s believed that its different phases will help get better effects for specific spell work. Here is a simple correspondence list for your Grimoire!

  1. New Moon

A great symbol of new beginnings. Great for magick when helping to clear obstacles, starting new business or job endeavors, and working in romance & health. The New Moon is also the perfect time to cleanse your crystals of any stagnant energy. So throw some in a bowl of spring water or simply place them on the windowsill and allow the moon to cleanse and clear them for you.

  1. Waxing Crescent, 3) Waxing Half-Moon (First Quarter) & 4) Waxing Gibbous

The Waxing moon is perfect for working on spells to increase things for yourself or others. This is due to the moon slowly getting larger to reach its fullest potential. It’s a good time of the month to work on prosperity & money magick, relationship magick (both romantic and platonic), and protection magick.

  1. The Full Moon

The full moon is the ideal time to work on magick. Its powerful glow can help with  ritual work and protection magick. Its powerful energy aids in more difficult spells and large workings like banishing, bindings, exorcisms, & spirit communication. Divination, Psychic Ability training, and Astral Travel work are believed to be easier under the full moon. The Full Moon is an important time to charge crystals to help them reach their fullest potential.

Full Moon Magick Cont:

Every Month there is a different full moon that appears and specific rituals, herbs, and crystals correspond with it. Here is a list of the names of those moons:

January: Wolf Moon

February: Snow Moon / Hunger Moon

March:  Worm Moon

April: Pink Moon

May: Flower Moon / Milk Moon

June: Strawberry Moon / Rose Moon

July: Buck Moon / Thunder Moon

August: Sturgeon Moon / Green Corn Moon

September: Corn Moon / Harvest Moon

October: Hunter’s Moon / Dying Moon

November: Beaver Moon / Frost Moon

December: Cold Moon / Long Night Moon

  1. Waning Gibbous, 7) Waning Half Moon (Last Quarter) & 8) Waning Crescent

This is a great time for banishing spells, ridding of negativity, and illness.

The Dark Moon / The Lost Moon / The Black Moon Magick:

This is the time of the month when the moon cycles ends. There is believed to be no part of the moon cycle in the sky any longer. This is right before the new moon. So, being that there is nothing but darkness, this is a good time to work on spells dealing with negative emotions, Un-hexing, Banishing, and removing not-so-great habits.

  )o(

Simple Full Moon House Cleansing/ Blessing Spell

  1. On the first night of the full moon, leave a jar of spring water outside with an Amethyst Crystal, Quartz Crystal, Obsidian Crystal, & Black Tourmaline Crystal inside. Leave it to rest overnight under the moon to collect the moon’s energy and infuse the water with the crystals creating an elixir.
  2. Remove the crystals from your jar and add 2TB of any type of salt into the water and swirl/shake the jar in a clockwise direction. Focus on putting white light into the jar while doing so.
  3. Using a paintbrush and your jar, walk around your house (starting from the back of your house) and draw a pentacle with the water above each door. While doing so say these words;

“Goddess of Light, hear my plea,

Protect my house, my sanctuary.

Fill it only with joy, laughter, and light,

And let all my days here be bright.

Negative energy and spirits begone,

Only positivity may reside hereon.”

4. When you finish every other door of your house, continue to your front door and painting the pentacle say the same phrase, ending it with “So it is said, so mote it be.”

Peace & Prosperity Gingerbread Cookies: Yule Kitchen Magick

Kitchen witchery is a hobby of mine, as you all know I’m more of a bath & candle witch. This probably has to do with the fact I currently only have a small convection oven to bake in–and that’s not easy. However, here is a recipe that is sure to bring you some joy this Yule.

Peace & Prosperity Bringing Gingerbread Cookies:

  • 3 cups flour
  • a pinch of Himalayan salt.
  • 2tsp baking powder
  • 1tsp baking soda
  • 1Tb Ground Ginger
  • 1tsp Clove
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 2TB cinnamon
  • 1 cup of vegan butter (room temp)
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup applesauce
  • 2TB Orange Extract
  • 1TB Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 cup Maple Syrup
  1. Mix all the dry ingredients together in a small bowl.
  2. In a different slightly larger bowl mix your applesauce, brown sugar, and butter together until it forms a smooth thick paste. Once it reaches this consistency slowly add in your Maple syrup and extracts.
  3. Gradually begin to add your dry ingredients into the batch stirring and kneading the dough clockwise to create the magick. Focus on adding into the dough white light that will bring you a bountiful season filled with the peace and prosperity of the herbs & extracts added to this batch of cookies.
  4. Once smooth, Wrap the dough’s bowl with plastic wrap and allow it to stand for about 2 hours at room temperature. Placing the bowl on your Yule altar during this wait period would be a great place to stash it. You could even perform a small ritual asking the God & Goddess to bless the cookies around the bowl.
  5. When ready to use, preheat your oven to 350°F and begin to roll the dough out with a floured rolling pin onto a floured cutting board or counter top.
  6. Use your cookie cutter(s) to create the cookies and place them onto an ungreased baking sheet (you can line it with parchment paper if you feel so inclined). Space about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes! They’re finished when they begin to brown around the edges.
  8. Allow to cool and decorate them for the season! Don’t forget to leave some as an offering on your Yule altar!
